More Light Ministry at Central
Central Presbyterian Church is a More Light Church.
In keeping with the Recommendation of the 1978 General Assembly of the UPUSA Church, we affirm that "homosexual persons are encompassed by the searching love of Christ. The Church must turn from its fear and hatred to move toward the homosexual community in love and to welcome homosexual inquirers to its congregations. It should free them to be candid about their identity and convictions, and it should also share honestly and humbly with them in seeking the vision of God's intention for the sexual dimensions of their lives." (1978 Minutes I, p. 263)
We are willing to receive more light on the questions of sexuality, loving relationships and ministry with all people. We will welcome as full participants in the Body of Christ, without their having to hide or deny their sexual orientation or affectional relationships, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons who seek with us the worship and work Christ wills for the Church. On the basis of our beliefs and experience, we gladly and unanimously reaffirm our identity as a More Light congregation.

"We limit not the truth of God to our poor reach of mind --by notions of our day and sect -- crude, partial and confined. No, let a new and better hope within our hearts be stirred, for God hath yet more light and truth to break forth from the Word."
-- Pastor John Robinson, in his sermon sending the Pilgrims to the New World, 1620;paraphrased in a hymn by George Rawson (1807-1889)
