Wednesday Night Book Study
Beginning January 10, the Wednesday night book study will take a look at Simplicity Lessons: A 12-Step Guide to Living Simply by Linda Breen Pierce. This book is used by people who want to start a Voluntary Simplicity Circle, which is a small group that can meet just once, or can decide to meet on a more periodic basis to continue discussions on how to simplify their lives.
What it is: A way to start the process of trying to live more simply, which often translates into living more frugally, more intentionally, and with more of an emphasis on honoring creation. Over a six-week period, we will go through the 12 lessons in the book, each chapter of which has some questions to help us examine our own viewpoints on living more simply.
What it is NOT: It is not a class on “30 Ways to Reuse Aluminum Foil”, although that might come up in the conversation! It is also not an attempt to make any participant feel guilty about what he or she is or is not doing “right.” Rather, we will hopefully come to understand that each of us has different ways that simple living is important to us—that each of us may be a good example of simple living in one area, but not necessarily in some other areas. In this way, we can exchange ideas and goals with each other about how we might reach financial independence, “downsize” our possessions, take steps to be more environmentally aware, and just overall find ways to live a more simple existence.
So, regardless of where you find yourself in this continuum, come join us to learn. Talk with Melissa Atkinson or Ann Deibert for more information. Ann has books available for $13.
We meet at 6:30; dinner is at 5:30 for those who want to eat together before the study time.
Please read the first two chapters before our first meeting.
