A little bit about who we are...
Central Presbyterian Church is a community of faith learning to celebrate our differences and reaching out to others with God's peace and love. We invite you to participate. We are committed to an expression of our faith that includes, as full parts of the faith community, old, young, female, male, persons with disabilities, and persons of all cultures, races, nations and sexual orientations.
Rooted and grounded in God's wildly inclusive love, we at Central Presbyterian Church seek the voice of God in our lives. Nurturing God's gifts so generously given, we work to grow in our life together and in our engagement with the world. We celebrate the hope of Jesus Christ by working actively for peace and justice. We reach out with love to all God's children, including those outside the mainstream of society. We strive to be responsive and responsible to each other and to those whose lives we touch. We joyfully open ourselves to what God's Spirit will yet call us to be and do.
Language and Worship
At Central, we strive to balance traditional images of God with new images that challenge us to recognize God's many faces. The male-centered language the church has historically used links us to a rich heritage; nevertheless, it is incomplete and fails to acknowledge that we are all - male and female - created in God's image. While it is sometimes impossible to use totally inclusive language, our worship leaders attempt to use a variety of images and to use language that is inclusive for God and for humankind.
The Skinner Organ
Central's organ was built in 1930 by the E. M. Skinner Pipe Organ Company (Opus 776) and was completely restored in 1997. The instrument is composed of 40 ranks (sets) of pipes and is placed in the chambers on either side of the chancel and in the balcony at the rear of the sanctuary. It is the only Skinner pipe organ in Louisville.
